School of Forensic Medicine
The discipline of forensic medicine in Hebei Medical University was founded in 1956, and Department of Forensic Medicine was established in 1988. Twoyears later, it obtained the authorization of the master's degree in forensic medicine, and the authorization of the doctorate degree in 2000. In 2000, the Forensic Identification Center was approved by Hebei Provincial Department of Justice. In 2002, the Ministry of Education approved Hebei Medical University to set up thespecialtyofforensic science. In 2003, it began to recruit undergraduates. In 2017, it developed into the College of Forensic Medicine, which is composed of the Department of Forensic Pathology, the Department of Forensic ClinicalMedicine, the Department of Forensic Evidence, the Department of Forensic Toxicology, the Experiment Center, and the FacultyOffice. It focuses on the training and teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates, academic research and administration. It has the responsibilities of students training, scientific research, forensic identification, etc. Hebei Association of Forensic Medicine is also run by this college. In 2019, the forensic team was honored as the “Outstanding Team in the National Education System”.
The discipline is a national key forensic discipline (in cultivation), and a provincial key discipline and key laboratory. It is also rated as a collaborative innovation center of forensic molecular identification, a “DoubleFirst-Class”discipline in Hebei province, a Science and Technology Innovation Team in Hebei Province. This college has established the National Top-levelCourses and the National Excellent Video Public Courses. The teaching team of this college is honored as the Excellent Teaching Team, the Provincial Specialized Specialty and the Talent Education and Training Innovation Heights as well as the Comprehensive Reform Pilot in Hebei province.
This Forensic Identification Center has passed the accreditation by ChinaNational Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment(CNAS) and ChinaInspection Body and Laboratory Mandatory Approval (CMA). Under the leadership of Academician Cong Bin, who is also the dean of this college, all the staff worked together to develop the college's career aggressively. So far, it has been awarded one First-class Awardand two Second-classAwardsof NationalScienceand TechnologyProgress. This college has receivedthree First-class Awardsand two Second-classAwardsof Hebei Natural Scienceand TechnologyProgress, two Second-classAwardsof Hebei Natural ScienceProgressand two provincialTeaching AchievementAwards. In scientific research, it has hosted over 80 scientific research projects, including 24 national-level projectsandmore than 430 papers published, of which 93 are SCI papers. The college also edited 5 monographs as editor-in-chief, such as Practical Forensic Medicine, and co-edited 3 monographs as deputy editor-in-chief. It is thechief editor of two national planning textbooks Forensic Pathology andForensic Jurisprudence, as well as the deputy editor of Forensic Biological Evidence, Advanced Forensic Medicine,Forensic Medicine and Forensic Jurisprudence. It has been granted 7 authorized invention patents and 1 copyright with 5 post-doctoral students, 67 Ph.D.students, 152 postgraduates, and 426 undergraduatestrained.
It aims to strengthen multidisciplinary research in forensic science, establish and improve China's forensic theoretical system, cultivate high-quality technical professionals and build a forensic education center. It also aims to establish the internationally competitive national forensic innovative base, the professional training center, and the transferring platform of scientific and technological achievements, focusing on professional training, basic research, and forensic identification, to provide technical support to maintain national justice.
